One of the most common questions when it comes to divorce is, “How long will a divorce take?” Unfortunately, there is not a simple answer and really depends on every situation. However, we will try to explain some of the basics to give you a better idea of what to expect.

For starters, the minimum amount of time a divorce can take is ninety days. This is because there is a ninety day waiting period before the divorce can be finalized in the state of Connecticut. The end of that period is called the Case Management Date, and if both parties have a signed agreement, you can be divorced that day. However, this is not the case for most people.

Divorce is a stressful and emotional time in anyone's life and even people who are civil towards each other can find it difficult to agree upon fundamental issues causing a divorce to last month's or even years. If the spouse is particularly not willing to cooperate, the process can take even longer.

The main factors that influence the length of a divorce include child custody, separation of property, complicated financial issues, allegations of sexual abuse or adultery and stubborn parties. While these are all complicated issues, it is important that they are resolved in the court with the presence of an attorney by your side.
